Walnut-stained, solid boxwood display cabinet with a glass vitrine top with beveled, phenolic bonded front and side panels, brass hardware, and a paneled storage compartment below. The upper display section has 3 sides and top of unobstructed glass panels The vitrine top is accessed from the rear via a guillotine access door with a solid brass latch and and original key! The interior can be easily lined if you wish. The lower cabinet offers enclosed storage, set on 4 tapered legs. The lower storage cabinet shows plenty of evidence of leaky fountain pens.
Where did this come from? I began selling and servicing office machines in 1967 at Cambias Office Machines in New Orleans, La. Cambias had already been in business for 50 years, and I ended up buying the business from Mr. Cambias in 1987, along with all his inventory. This is a cabinet I kept when I closed the business in 2002
This shows 60 years of retail wear with the usual surface scratches to the wood, and just a handful of scattered scratches to the glass. The overall wear is consistent with age and use, this cabinet structurally sound and the hardware is original and functional.
Purpose-built and compact, this case reflects early 20th-century point-of-sale design-functional, durable, and meant to elevate everyday objects into aspirational goods. Overall measures 42-1/4” h. x 17-1/4” x 23-1/4”.
